It includes eight towns in the Val di Noto district (Caltagirone, Militello in Val di Catania, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide, Ragusa and Scicli), which were hit and largely destroyed by a terrible earthquake in 1693. The reconstruction followed the late Baroque taste of the time, which characterises them and makes them artistically unique even
