Le puissant s\u00e9isme de 1693, dont l&rsquo;intensit\u00e9 est aujourd&rsquo;hui estim\u00e9e d&rsquo;une magnitude d&rsquo;environ 7,3 sur l&rsquo;\u00e9chelle de Richter, causa la mort de quelque 93.000 personnes et d\u00e9vasta tout le territoire de la vall\u00e9e de Noto, d\u00e9truisant les maisons, les monuments et les infrastructures. <br \/>Les ann\u00e9es suivantes, quelques villes furent reconstruites sur leur site d&rsquo;origine, tandis que d&rsquo;autres furent reb\u00e2ties sur de nouveaux emplacements. <br \/>Les plus grands architectes de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 la reconstruction, ainsi que des ma\u00eetres artisans, des sculpteurs et des d\u00e9corateurs qui, gr\u00e2ce aux \u00ab trait\u00e9s \u00bb (comme le \u00ab <em>Trait\u00e9 d&rsquo;architecture<\/em> \u00bb de Sebastiano Serlio), ont donn\u00e9 naissance au grand chef-d&rsquo;\u0153uvre du baroque tardif de la vall\u00e9e de Noto. Cette zone a repris vie avec des particularit\u00e9s extraordinaires et fascinantes qui permettent de la qualifier comme \u00ab Vall\u00e9e du Baroque \u00bb, en raison de l&rsquo;<em>unicum<\/em> et du <em>continuum<\/em> des \u00e9difices et des milieux urbains de la vall\u00e9e de Noto.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element 2002, la vall\u00e9e de Noto a \u00e9t\u00e9 inscrite au Patrimoine mondial de l&rsquo;UNESCO avec la motivation suivante :<br \/><em>\u00ab Ce groupe de villes du sud-est de la Sicile offre un t\u00e9moignage exceptionnel du g\u00e9nie exub\u00e9rant de l\u2019art et de l\u2019architecture du baroque tardif.<\/em><br \/><em>Les villes de la vall\u00e9e de Noto repr\u00e9sentent l\u2019apog\u00e9e et l\u2019\u00e9panouissement final de l\u2019art baroque en Europe.<\/em><br \/><em>La qualit\u00e9 exceptionnelle de l\u2019art et de l\u2019architecture du baroque tardif de la vall\u00e9e de Noto r\u00e9side dans son homog\u00e9n\u00e9it\u00e9 g\u00e9ographique et chronologique et est le r\u00e9sultat du tremblement de terre de 1693 dans cette r\u00e9gion.<\/em><br \/><em>Les huit villes du sud-est de la Sicile qui constituent cette proposition d\u2019inscription sont caract\u00e9ristiques des mod\u00e8les de cr\u00e9ation urbaine de cette r\u00e9gion et sont plac\u00e9es sous la menace constante des risques de tremblements de terre et des \u00e9ruptions de l\u2019Etna. \u00bb<\/em><br \/>Huit sont les communes inscrites au titre de centres urbains, pour certaines de leurs rues ou quelques-uns de leurs monuments :<br \/>Catane, Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania, Noto, Palazzolo Acreide, Raguse, Modica et
