Le projet pr\u00e9voyait la construction d&rsquo;un second clocher sur la droite, qui ne fut toutefois jamais b\u00e2ti. La fa\u00e7ade de l&rsquo;\u00e9glise se d\u00e9ploie sur deux niveaux, structur\u00e9e en cinq registres <span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">(Fig. a)<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">. Le registre central accueille l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e de la nef principale, dont le portail est d\u00e9limit\u00e9 par deux paires de colonnes surmont\u00e9es d&rsquo;un arc bris\u00e9 entour\u00e9 des statues de saint Jean-Baptiste et de saint Jean l&rsquo;\u00c9vang\u00e9liste, tandis qu&rsquo;au centre un \u00e9dicule abrite la statue de la Vierge (Fig. b).<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Sa r\u00e9alisation est l&rsquo;\u0153uvre de deux ma\u00eetres artisans provenant d&rsquo;Acireale, quoique des artisans locaux aient sans doute jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le dans sa conception. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">L&rsquo;\u00e9glise pr\u00e9sente un plan en croix latine \u00e0 trois nefs (Fig. c), tandis qu&rsquo;une grande coupole surplombe la crois\u00e9e du transept, qui fut rev\u00eatue de cuivre au XIXe s. \u00e0 cause d&rsquo;incessantes infiltrations d&rsquo;eau (Fig. d).<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">La vo\u00fbte de l&rsquo;abside accueille la statue en pierre noire de saint Jean, qui provient de l&rsquo;ancienne \u00e9glise de Ragusa Ibla d\u00e9truite par le s\u00e9isme.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Pendant la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XVIII e s., les Gianforma r\u00e9alis\u00e8rent les stucs ainsi que les d\u00e9cors des vo\u00fbtes de l&rsquo;\u00e9glise et des parois du transept.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Entre 1931 et 1940, le ma\u00eetre Salvatore Cascone d\u00e9cora de fresques le baptist\u00e8re, notamment les lunettes de la coupole repr\u00e9sentant les quatre \u00e9vang\u00e9listes <\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">(Fig. e)<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">En 1955, le ma\u00eetre artisan Carmelo Cappello r\u00e9alisa les fonts baptismaux en bronze.<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Le pavement de l\u2019\u00e9glise est en<\/span><em style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\"> pierre pece <\/em><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">incrust\u00e9e de marqueteries en calcaire blanc (Fig. f).<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">\u00c0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur, un grand orgue construit au milieu du XIXe s. par la firme Serassi, plac\u00e9 au-dessus de l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e de la nef centrale, pr\u00e9sente une imposante tribune des chantres en bois sculpt\u00e9 et dor\u00e9.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Un grand parvis fut construit devant l\u2019\u00e9glise, d\u00e9limit\u00e9 par une balustrade en<\/span><em style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\"> pierre pece<\/em><span
