La d\u00e9couverte d&rsquo;une image sacr\u00e9e, repr\u00e9sentant une <em>Vierge \u00e0 l&rsquo;Enfant<\/em>, d\u00e9termina le choix du lieu de son \u00e9dification, dont les travaux rest\u00e8rent toutefois inachev\u00e9s.<br \/><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">B\u00e2tie au milieu du XVIIe s., l&rsquo;\u00e9glise pr\u00e9sente un plan centr\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9veloppement octogonal, typologie rare en Sicile (Fig. b). On suppose que ce plan fut con\u00e7u par un architecte affirm\u00e9, sans doute en contact avec des cercles romains, s\u00fbrement avec celui du Bernin,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">laissant ainsi pr\u00e9sumer qu&rsquo;une grande personnalit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;architecture baroque \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 Raguse.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Seules sont achev\u00e9es les trois fa\u00e7ades centrales munies d&rsquo;architraves (Fig. c, et e), tandis que les fa\u00e7ades lat\u00e9rales sont surmont\u00e9es de simples fen\u00eatres rectangulaires \u00e0 encadrement lisse (Fig. d, et f).<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">\u00c0 la fin du XIXe s., l&rsquo;\u00e9glise fut ferm\u00e9e au culte et affect\u00e9e \u00e0 chambre fun\u00e9raire, puis vendue \u00e0 un particulier dans les ann\u00e9es 50, avant d&rsquo;\u00eatre rachet\u00e9e par la commune de
