(Fig. a Apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;unification italienne, le couvent fut confisqu\u00e9 par l&rsquo;\u00c9tat qui r\u00e9alisa des travaux d&rsquo;am\u00e9nagement int\u00e9rieur et ext\u00e9rieur en le transformant en caserne de carabiniers.<br \/>La fa\u00e7ade pr\u00e9sente un portail surmont\u00e9 d&rsquo;une rosace typique du XIVe s. (Fig. b), tandis que la partie sup\u00e9rieure fut reconstruite en style baroque tardif apr\u00e8s le s\u00e9isme.<br \/>Avant le s\u00e9isme, cette \u00e9glise \u00e0 nef unique (Fig. c) pr\u00e9sentait deux chapelles lat\u00e9rales, dont il ne reste aujourd&rsquo;hui que celle de droite. \u00c0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur, on peut admirer le groupe sculpt\u00e9 de l&rsquo;Annonciation (Fig. d), de l&rsquo;\u00e9cole du Gagini, ainsi qu&rsquo;un retable en bois peint repr\u00e9sentant un saint du Carmel,<br \/>Les derniers travaux de restauration men\u00e9s dans le couvent ont mis au jour des structures qui \u00e9taient compl\u00e8tement inconnues jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent : un clo\u00eetre (Fig. e) datable du d\u00e9but du XIVe s., attestant l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e des Carm\u00e9lites \u00e0 Modica \u00e0 la fin du XIIIe s., et d&rsquo;autres pi\u00e8ces dont la m\u00e9moire s&rsquo;\u00e9tait perdue, car dissimul\u00e9es par des remblais. Plusieurs locaux ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 des \u00e9l\u00e9ments architecturaux m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux et post-m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux d&rsquo;une grande importance historique (Fig. f).<br \/>Au premier \u00e9tage, sur la gauche du clo\u00eetre, les travaux ont \u00e9galement d\u00e9voil\u00e9 quatre fen\u00eatres faisant partie de l&rsquo;\u00e9glise m\u00e9di\u00e9vale, qui avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 obstru\u00e9es apr\u00e8s le tremblement de terre de 1693.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-76c69ba4
