L&rsquo;ordre fut fond\u00e9 au Moyen ge en Espagne, autour du XIIIe s., sa t\u00e2che \u00e9tant de recueillir des dons pour racheter les chr\u00e9tiens r\u00e9duits en esclavage par les Maures. \u00c9difi\u00e9 au d\u00e9but du XVIIIe s., il est caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par une longue fa\u00e7ade lat\u00e9rale b\u00e2tie sur deux niveaux, avec un grand perron qui donne acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e (Fig. b). Le portail est compos\u00e9 de deux pilastres \u00e0 bossage soutenant un entablement o\u00f9 s&rsquo;inscrit un balcon ceint d&rsquo;une balustrade en fer en <em>poitrine d&rsquo;oie<\/em> (Fig. c), dont la grande fen\u00eatre est d\u00e9limit\u00e9e par deux corniches moulur\u00e9es et une architrave d\u00e9cor\u00e9e. Suite aux lois d&rsquo;\u00e9version promulgu\u00e9es apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;unification italienne, le couvent fut confisqu\u00e9 et donn\u00e9 \u00e0 la commune de Modica.<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">L&rsquo;entr\u00e9e principale donne sur un hall d&rsquo;o\u00f9 partent deux couloirs lat\u00e9raux et o\u00f9 un escalier conduit \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9tage sup\u00e9rieur. Les pavements en <em>pierre pece<\/em> incrust\u00e9s de pierre calcaire ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9s aux alentours de 2010 (Fig. d). Au premier \u00e9tage, les pi\u00e8ces plac\u00e9es le long des couloirs accueillaient autrefois les cellules des moines, et sont utilis\u00e9es aujourd\u2019hui pour des expositions (Fig. e). Ce palais abrite \u00e9galement<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">un mus\u00e9e des arts et traditions populaires o\u00f9 sont reproduits les anciens ateliers d&rsquo;artisans (Fig.
