Suite aux lois d&rsquo;\u00e9version du royaume d&rsquo;Italie (1866-1867), le complexe fut confisqu\u00e9 par l&rsquo;\u00c9tat, et le couvent fut c\u00e9d\u00e9 \u00e0 la commune de Scicli qui le d\u00e9molit au d\u00e9but du XXe s. pour y construire la mairie actuelle.<br \/>Le projet de reconstruction du complexe fut confi\u00e9 au carme Alberto Maria di San Giovanni Battista, assist\u00e9 des conseils de Vincenzo Sinatra, \u00ab l&rsquo;ing\u00e9nieur de la vall\u00e9e de Noto \u00bb et \u00e9l\u00e8ve du Gagliardi.<br \/>Sa fa\u00e7ade \u00e0 clocher, typique de nombreuses \u00e9glises du baroque tardif, pr\u00e9sente trois niveaux et trois registres (Fig. b). La forme concave et convexe du premier niveau conf\u00e8re un jeu singulier de clairs-obscurs \u00e0 la fa\u00e7ade. Un grand escalier donne acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e situ\u00e9e dans le registre central, positionn\u00e9e entre deux paires de colonnes g\u00e9min\u00e9es qui, avec les colonnes lat\u00e9rales, soutiennent un large entablement qui est d\u00e9limit\u00e9 sur le haut par une grille en fer forg\u00e9. Au second niveau, la grande fen\u00eatre qui surplombe l&rsquo;entr\u00e9e est encadr\u00e9e de corniches d\u00e9cor\u00e9es. Le dernier niveau est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 par la cage du clocher, dont l&rsquo;arcade centrale plus grande est surmont\u00e9e d&rsquo;un tympan bris\u00e9.<br \/>L&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur \u00e0 plan elliptique, conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la tradition monastique, est pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 d&rsquo;un vestibule qui accueille un orgue (Fig. c) et se termine par la vo\u00fbte semi-circulaire de l&rsquo;abside (Fig. d).<br \/>La vo\u00fbte de la nef, riche en stucs et en peintures (Fig. e), est soutenue par un somptueux entablement qui s&rsquo;appuie sur des colonnes cannel\u00e9es coiff\u00e9es d&rsquo;un chapiteau corinthien.<br \/>La sacristie abrite un tableau du XVIIe s. repr\u00e9sentant le Christ en croix portant une tunique, au lieu du p\u00e9rizonium plus conforme \u00e0 l&rsquo;iconographie classique (Fig. f). Cette repr\u00e9sentation s&rsquo;inspire du crucifix en bois de la cath\u00e9drale espagnole de Burgos o\u00f9 le Christ est v\u00eatu d&rsquo;une
